At the beginning of this month, we covered claims from Portugal that both Manchester United and PSG had offered €70m for Joao Neves.
Since then a transfer to the French club has been somewhat cemented and looks the most likely outcome at this stage. Benfica need money, put forward a renewal which didn’t please the player, and have found themselves backed into a corner.
A Bola report there’s still no agreement and despite the €70m PSG offer, made up of €60m plus €10m in bonus payments, a final deal hasn’t been reached.
They say the 19-year-old is ‘not considering’ offers from Manchester City or Manchester United and only wants to play for PSG.
That feels somewhat questionable and there’s a chance the two Premier League clubs are being used to hype the situation a little.
Record and A Bola both make it clear he’s set to get a huge salary in Paris, and Benfica are currently holding out for more, maybe even in terms of a percentage of a future sale, to let this one go through.
There’s an expectation an agreement will be reached before July 26th, when Joao Neves is set to return to pre-season training.
