Tanguy Ndombele is keen on reviewing his career at OGC Nice after a disappointing spell at Tottenham Hotspur.
Last month, Spurs announced that they have mutually agreed with the midfielder to terminate his contract. It allowed him to join the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer and he was presented to the media on Wednesday.
Thursday’s edition of Nice-Matin have relayed the former Tottenham man’s comments, and he has acknowledged having had difficulties over the past few years.
The Premier League side invested €62m to buy the Frenchman from Lyon in 2019 and he is still their club-record signing.
Ndombele’s failure to impress at the north London club saw him being sent out on loan to Lyon, Napoli and Galatasaray since January 2022. He struggled with both the Serie A side and the Turkish club, which is why they didn’t exercise their options to buy him.
“Joining Nice is a natural choice, given my somewhat complicated career over the last few years. Coming back to France was the right choice for me. I’ve known Florian Maurice since my time at Lyon, and that’s also what tipped the balance,” he said.
“I had a good feeling that Nice were the best choice for me. I’m at a stage in my footballing life where I need to play. I want to rediscover some of my sensations. I’m happy to be here, the coach talks to me like he talks to all the players.
“There’s no guarantee of playing time, but I know I’ve got things to prove. The most important thing is the team. When it’s doing well, everyone does well. Have I had a lot of requests? Yes and no. Between exchanges and offers, there’s always room for improvement.”
