Everton are eyeing a move for Montpellier defender Bećir Omeragić as they look to bolster their defensive options this summer.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Everton have their eyes fixed on Ligue 1 and are ‘particularly fond’ of Omeragić.
The 22-year-old joined the French side on a free transfer last summer after his deal with FC Zürich has expired, and quickly established himself as a regular, with 31 games in total and 29 of those as a starter.
His ‘regular and successful performances’ in Ligue 1 saw him return to the Switzerland set up and earned him attention from around Europe, particularly in Germany where clubs had been watching him from a very young age at Zurich.
There is no mention of a potential asking price from Montpellier, a price that Everton would like to pay or whether any sort of negotiations, even with his agents, have taken place. It is just stated that the Toffees are interested in him.
Given Sean Dyche has James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite as his established central pairing and Michael Keane and Mason Holgate also in the squad, it’s hard to imagine there’s a real need for another addition in that area at present.
Although with Holgate very much not wanted and Keane in the final year of his deal so a candidate to be sold, perhaps Omeragić is being eyed up as a replacement for either, or both.
