Once Everton has touched you, nothing will be the same, and it seems that applies to a dislike of Liverpool Football Club. That’s, at least, if Ben Godfrey’s latest comments are anything to go by.
The defender has been speaking at a press conference for new club Atalanta today, with his comments relayed by Tuttosport.
The defender joined the Italian side in a €12m deal at the beginning of the month after they made something of a surprise move for him.
Negotiations for him were quickly wrapped up and he made the move to Italy once the transfer window had opened, bringing an end to a four-year stay at Everton in the process.
Godfrey was a regular under Sean Dyche last season but had entered into the final year of his contract, so was moved on when a new deal was not agreed.
His focus is now on Atalanta, who are set for Champions League football this season, but it seems that doesn’t mean he won’t forget old allegiances any time soon.
“Ancelotti was one of the first who I contacted once I learned of Atalanta’s interest and he immediately advised me to go there,” he said.
“Serie A is a championship very strong where all the teams are tactically prepared. The Champions League is the dream of most soccer players.
“At Everton everyone was happy that I came here, like how they were happy with Liverpool’s elimination in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.”
