PSV Eindhoven are willing to break their transfer record to sign Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool this summer but would prefer not to do so.
That’s according to PSV Fans, citing journalist Rik Elfrink, who reports that PSV are still working on trying to bring Liverpool’s asking price down.
Reports over the last few weeks have made it clear that Van den Berg is a priority target for PSV this summer as they look to strengthen their defence.
The defender is reportedly keen on the move, but he and PSV have been left disappointed by Liverpool, who have put a €20m asking price on his head.
According to him, PSV don’t want to pay such a fee for Van den Berg, although they are ‘prepared to go far’ for him.
They would prefer to see his current asking price drop by several million this summer and are working to try and make that happen. They would, though, be willing to break their current €15m transfer record to get Van den Berg.
The website adds that the Liverpool defender is currently valued at around €12m, which we’ll assume they’ve plucked from the likes of Transfermarkt.
Even if that is PSV’s current valuation, it shows there’s work to be done to get Liverpool down, even to their current club record €15m figure.
