Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has turned down a chance to move to the Saudi Pro League, as he wants to remain in the Premier League.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reports that Al-Ahli were willing to offer the Belgian midfielder a three-year contract to make the move this summer.
Onana has long been linked with a move away from Everton, making it clear on more than one occasion that he is ready to step up to a bigger club.
Indeed, he was hoping to use Euro 2024 as something of a stage on which to show himself to potential suitors, something he probably achieved despite their exit to France in the last 16.
It seem that hesitancy opened the door for Saudi Arabia to become a potential option, with Al-Ahli making a move while nobody else did.
Tavolieri reports that they offered a three-year deal to the midfielder and ‘wanted to find out more about the player’ before then approaching Everton with a bid.
Onana wasn’t interested, though, and told the club that he wants to stay in the Premier League this summer. That, therefore, ended any hope for the Saudi side.
Whether he midfielder gets his wish remains to be seen. Given Everton’s big demands and the lack of real movement from any of the big sides in the Premier League so far, despite numerous reports citing interest, he may be waiting for that move for some time.
