Chelsea have withdrawn from the bidding for Atlético Madrid striker Samu Omorodion after getting tired of ‘hitting a wall’ regarding the player.
That’s according to Marca, who say Chelsea have had a sudden change of heart when it comes to the striker.
The newspaper reports that Chelsea are ‘tired of hitting a wall’ when it comes to Omorodion, who they had identified as a target this summer.
They believed he could be a reference point for them moving forwards and lead the line for Enzo Maresca, liking his physical power and believing he could adapt well to life in the Premier League.
An offer of €33m plus €7m in variables was proposed but quickly rejected by those in charge at the Wanda Metropolitano. They insist that Omorodion is not for sale and have stuck to that.
The Blues instead focused on signing Jonathan David from Lille and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, after already signing Marc Guiu from Barcelona this summer.
A move for Omorodion has now been abandoned and they ‘forget about the player’, having grown tired of Atlético’s refusal to do a deal.
Now, we should point out that two days ago Marca were insistent that Chelsea had not forgotten about Omorodion after seeing their initial bid rejected.
They insisted that the Blues would make another bid at some point but now they’ve changed their tune and are claiming that the idea of signing Omorodion has been abandoned.
That leads us to take this with a pinch of salt and believe the newspaper may just be covering all bases so they can move whatever way if anything, or indeed nothing, happens around Omorodion this summer.
