Despite a spell of excitement in the Italian media which saw multiple sources insist a deal to take Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal had already been agreed, things have calmed down a little since then.
Whilst it’s still thought that an agreement is on the way, and that the central defender has picked the Gunners despite having other options, it’s not agreed.
That’s reported by TuttoBolognaWeb, who are part of the Gazzetta dello Sport group. They say there’s no agreement yet on the €50m transfer, with Bologna being keen to clear €30m after paying the percentage due to Calafiori’s former club FC Basel.
Meanwhile, the Serie A side are keen on Jakub Kiwior and would ideally like to sign the Arenal defender on loan with a buying option for next summer.
Juventus are also keen on Kiwior, so there’s a clear card Arsenal can play here to help them get the Calafiori transfer over the line.
A well priced loan for Kiwior to Bologna looks like a route to success.
