Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Renato Veiga from FC Basel after previous reports of an agreement.

Newspaper O Jogo reveals that the player is already in London and should have his medicals with the Blues at some point today.

It’s said Chelsea will pay €15m for the signing, and the transfer shall be made official in the coming hours.

The reason the Portuguese media is attentive to the news is that Veiga used to belong to Sporting, who’ll get a share from the transfer.

When selling Veiga to Basel for €4.6m last summer, the Lions kept 10% of a future transfer. Now with his move to Chelsea, they’re getting €1.5m.

The defender spent many years at Sporting’s academy, but never really managed to find a place in their first team, and didn’t even make his professional debut there.

That’s why he had a loan at Ausburg and ended up getting sold to Basel, where he made 26 appearances last season.

Now we shall see whether Chelsea are actually using him or if they’ll end up loaning the youngster somewhere else for now.
