Liverpool target Michele Di Gregorio has completed a move from AC Monza to Juventus on Friday.
The Reds showed keen interest in the goalkeeper, and this was reported in the Italian media over the past few weeks.
On June 5th, Tuttosport reported that Liverpool made a desperate attempt to hijack the Turin club’s deal for the 26-year-old.
Later that month, the same outlet stated Arne Slot’s side had offered more money to convince the stopper to snub Juve. They made three attempts and all were unsuccessful.
Di Gregorio’s agent Carlo Belloni spoke to TV Play to express his delight after the Old Lady secured his client’s services.
When responding to that, Belloni confirmed Liverpool’s interest and also explained why the Italian ended up picking the Turin club over the Reds.
“Yes, there was a chat with Liverpool and obviously we were very pleased. However, we had given our word and had clear ideas after Monza,” he said.
“However, we had no doubts about the choice after speaking with [Cristiano] Giuntoli. We remained faithful to Juve because it was what he wanted, what Juve wanted and Thiago Motta immediately came up with Di Gregorio’s name.”
Alisson Becker has been the first-choice stopper at Liverpool since he arrived at Anfield from AS Roma in 2018 and he’s been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
