Back in February, we covered claims from Germany that Borussia Mönchengladbach are confident of taking Rio Bromfield away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Fast forward to July and the Bundesliga side have now announced that they have sealed the signing of the youngster from Tottenham.

This news is covered in Wednesday’s edition of Rheinische Post, who explain the 16-year-old joined Tottenham in 2021 and has now left them for the German club.

The newspaper have also relayed quotes from Gladbach youth director Mirko Sandmöller, and he’s pleased that his side have secured a deal for the young left-back.

“He is a very positive guy with a high willingness to learn, who has a high pace, confident passing game and good switching behaviour,” he said.

It’s claimed the teenager will initially be included in the Mönchengladbach U17 squad. The young defender is eligible to represent both England and Germany.

Towards the end of October, Bromfield represented England U16 before going on to play for Germany U16 twice the following month.

Earlier this year, Gladbach Live reported Bromfield had decided to represent Germany because of his desire to move to that country this summer. This would be one of the reasons why he picked Borussia Mönchengladbach as his new club.
