As Corinthians starlet Wesley continues to be linked with a move to Europe, it’s now strange to recall West Ham United’s chase for him.
That’s because reports from Brazil had been claiming that the Hammers offered €15m and then €18m for the winger, and that was never enough to convince his club.
Now as Goal shares a new story, they say that with Wesley a lot less hyped, Porto are preparing a €7m bid for the youngster, possibly including another player in the deal.
West Ham’s effort is remembered. They’re said to be one of the clubs who tried the signing and couldn’t advance in talks with Corinthians.
Other clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Real Betis are also mentioned, and none of them reached a deal.
Goal points out that Corinthians continue to demand €30m for the sale, but Porto’s offer makes it clear that he may leave for a lot less.
The problem was West Ham’s timing, as Wesley had been doing very well right before their bid. Now his performances dropped, and the Brazilian club are in a desperate situation by fighting relegation and needing money for reinforcements.
Since the Hammers ended up signing Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras instead, it doesn’t sound like they’d put the €18m on the table again.
