Birmingham City have seen a deal for Sparta Rotterdam defender Mike Eerdhuijzen collapse after it appeared to be finalised.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who report the defender ‘is not going to Birmingham after all’ despite him travelling to England to complete the move.
VI explain that all the signals were green for Eerdhuijzen to make the switch to Birmingham and Sparta had even presented a new defender, Teo Quintero, as his replacement.
However, the deal with Brimingham City went up in smoke and has now been cancelled, with the Dutch side missing out on a ‘million sum’.
There is no further explanation of why the deal has been cancelled, and VI only say that the defender ‘did not make it out’ after travelling to Birmingham.
What that means is anyone’s guess, although that wording suggests there was an issue either with his medical or late negotiations over personal terms. That’s speculation on our part, to be clear.
Either way, the deal with Birmingham has been cancelled despite Eerdhuijzen travelling to England and he is now turning his focus back to Sparta, suggesting it won’t be revived at any point either.
A transfer to another club has not been ruled out later in the window, but for now he he’s heading back to the Netherlands and remains a Sparta player.
