As Brazil will tonight be facing Colombia in the final fixture of the Copa América group stages, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson been speaking with the local media.
His place in the team may be questioned sometimes, but the fact is he was their starter in the last two World Cups, and is building a big history with the national team.
Alisson was asked about his longevity, and claimed that both when playing for Liverpool or Brazil, he’s aiming to be the best. The quotes come from Globo Esporte.
“Longevity is linked to consistency. I always want to be the best goalkeeper in Brazil, England and the world,” he said.
“Training is fundamental to that. Once your career reaches a certain point, you realise that other choices make a difference. I have to work very hard to arrive at matches well prepared. I always have to play well to convince Dorival to call me up and choose me as number one.”
“One of the great advantages that we goalkeepers in the national team have is having Taffarel as our goalkeeper coach,” he added.
“He passes on all his experience to us on a daily basis, in our relationship, he helps us a lot, not just because of the quality of his work on the pitch, but because of his experience of having been a great goalkeeper, of having gone through things that we’re experiencing, a great honour and pride to work alongside him.”
Brazil were held to a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica and then beat Paraguay 4-1 in their first two games and their next game against Colombia is important because that will decide who will finish first in the group.
So far, the Copa America has Argentina, Ecuador, Venezuela, Canada, Panama and Uruguay guaranteed in the quarter-finals. United States, who are hosting the tournament, ended up missing out on the knock-out stages, as well as Mexico and Chile.
