Feyenoord defender David Hancko has insisted he doesn’t think he will be joining Liverpool with Arne Slot this summer, as the Reds aren’t looking for players in his position.
The defender has been speaking to Voetbal International about his former manager and the possibility of a reunion with him at Anfield this summer.
Slot was confirmed as Liverpool’s new manager earlier this year after Jurgen Klopp elected to depart from the role a year earlier than expected.
The Dutchman is expected to be the first arrival in a busy summer for the Reds, who are believed to be considering something of an overhaul under Michael Edwards now that he has returned to lead operations.
Liverpool have quickly been linked to several players at Feyenoord as a result, an almost inevitable outcome, with new managers often linked to the players they’ve left behind at clubs.
He’s now played down the idea, though, suggesting that he’s gotten the impression from Liverpool that there is no interest there at present.
“I think in three years he (Slot) will be mentioned as one of the best coaches in the world,” he said.
“I see that happening because I know what he did for us and now he has the biggest platform to show it. I have a lot of confidence in him and his staff.
“And I don’t express that appreciation because I hope that I go with him to Liverpool, because that chance is small.
“I spoke to him a few times after the season but I don’t think they are looking for a player in my position so I don’t think a move to Liverpool will happen, but I wish him the best good luck, he really is a fantastic coach.”
