Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has told Het Belang van Limburg that he will continue at the Etihad next season.
The Belgium international is currently with the national team squad, preparing to face France in the knockout tie of the Euros on Monday.
HBVL asked the 33-year-old if he intends to represent Belgium at the 2026 World Cup, and when responding to that, he said: “I haven’t thought about it yet. It could be that I won’t, but at the moment it’s not a topic for me. I feel good. As long as that is the case, the national team remains important to me.
“During international breaks at City we always get seven to 10 days off. That would be welcome for my family. I’ll say it… If I continue to feel good, I will probably be available. I just don’t know what it will be like next year. A crazy season is coming for City, with even more matches. It must remain physically and mentally feasible.”
The newspaper then talked about the attacking midfielder’s future at Manchester City, where he has a year left on his deal.
The Manchester City star first arrived in England when Chelsea signed him from KRC Genk in 2012. Michael Emenalo was then the director at the London club and he’s currently the director of the Saudi Pro League.
De Bruyne said he met Emenalo last year, but he hasn’t held talks with anyone over a possible move to the Middle East.
“I’ve read a lot of headlines about a transfer [to Saudi], but I haven’t spoken to anyone. Yes. I saw him at the Club World Cup. I know Michael – then it makes sense for us to have a chat. But it wasn’t about that [transfer],” De Bruyne explained.
“I signed my contract at the right time. If there’s a good offer and you tell Pep that you want to leave, that is possible. This may be different at other clubs. But I have never indicated that I want to leave.”
On June 4th, the Manchester City star told Het Laatste Nieuws that he would consider a move to Saudi Arabia if he’s offered a lucrative package. HBVL now asked De Bruyne the importance of the economic aspect to decide his future.
“I have more than enough money. But if an absurd amount comes… That is also for my family, my relatives, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren and my friends,” he stressed.
