In the past few months, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez claiming has repeatedly said he’s like to play at both the Copa América and the Olympics for Argentina this summer.
Even though the club are not forced to let him go to Paris, he claimed he’d ‘fight’ with them to be in the squad for the competition.
According to TyC Sports, Aston Villa have decided against Martinez play the Olympics. Unai Emery’s side want the goalkeeper to be in pre-season with the rest of the squad.
The Copa America is being played in the United States between June 20th and July 14th. Football in the Olympics will take place between July 24th and August 10th. That’s basically a week before the start of the Premier League, so he’d be missing most of the pre-season with Aston Villa.
Martinez’s next interview with the Argentine media will certainly include questions about this decision.
