There’s some confidence in the Italian media today that Atalanta will soon complete the signing of Ben Godfrey from Everton.

Sky Italia, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, now come with fresh claims saying that ‘white smoke’ can arrive this evening.

It’s said Atalanta had preivously made a €8m offer which was deemed by Everton as too low. Now a new attempt arrived, this time worth €9m plus €1m in bonuses.

This offer ‘could be decisive’, and the deal is said to be in the ‘home stretch’. Since Godfrey already has an agreement with the Serie A side, it’s all about the deal between clubs.

The story claims that Lyon had actually offered more than Atalanta, putting €12m on the table, but the player has decided to go to the Italian club instead.

Some more information on the race for Godfrey is shared by MilanNews24, who brings some quotes from journalist Matteo Moretto. He claims that AC Milan had been trying to sign the Everton defender as well.

“Everton’s Ben Godfrey was also on Milan’s list in January, because Milan negotiated in the final hours of the transfer market to try to sign him.”

Now with Atalanta winning they race, they seem to be proud of the competition they’ve beaten.
