Everton need to secure as big a sum as possible for Amadou Onana this summer, as they’re obligated to give 20% of any fee to Lille.
That’s according to Hamburger Abendblatt, who cover the Belgian midfielder today and how the German side would be rubbing their hands at the prospect of him leaving Everton this summer.
The newspaper explains that the 22-year-old will be hoping that Euro 2024, where he is a part of Belgium’s squad, can help to drive up interest in him as he eyes a move to a bigger club than Everton.
He’s admitted as much publically, but no big clubs are yet to make their move for the Everton star, despite reports the Toffees need a big sale before the end of this month to help them comply with PSR.
That idea has been solidified by the fact that Onana was left sat on the bench by Everton at the end of last season when they were fighting against relegation.
Either way, a sale could be on the cards and both of his former clubs are rubbing their hands at the prospects, particularly HSV Hamburg.
They secured a 20% sell on clause with Lille when they sold the midfielder to the French side, so are due a fifth of any fee that the Ligue 1 club would get from Everton.
Hamburger Abendblatt put that into perspective, explaining that if Everton were to sell Onana for €59m, Lille would receive €11.8m and HSV €2.36m from that.
That would be more than welcome for the Germans, who could close a gap in their finances with that money due to a lower TV income and Shakhtar Donetsk no longer playing international home games in their stadium.
It all depends on Everton securing a sale first and, they’ll want to get as much as possible, with a large percentage set to head to his former clubs.
