Leeds United defender Maximilian Wöber has admitted talks about a permanent exit this summer are ‘at a standstill’ for the time being.
The Austrian centre-back has been speaking to BILD at their training camp in Germany as he’s part of their squad for Euro 2024.
He did not enjoy the best of starts to the tournament earlier this week as his own goal handed saw Austria fall to a 1-0 defeat to France in their opening game.
It was something of a horror moment for the defender, who will perhaps be using this tournament as a means in which to drum up interest in himself.
He spent the season at Borussia Monchengladbach from Leeds, making use of a clause in his deal at Elland Road to leave last summer.
All expectations have been that Leeds and Gladbach would find an agreement on a permanent deal, particularly with the former needing sales this summer to help balance the books.
Wöber has revealed that isn’t on the cards for now, though, as Leeds want him to concentrate on his football with Austria first.
“There is currently total radio silence on both sides,” he said.
“I’ve heard from Leeds that there will be talks once the European Championships are over. They want me to concentrate on Austria for now.
“In Gladbach I said goodbye to everyone and thanked them for the cool year. So far, I haven’t heard anything else.
“My ideal scenario would be that I become European champion with Austria – and then take a nice two or three week vacation…”
