Earlier this month, the Brazilian media revealed interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in signing Andreas Pereira from Fulham.
Back then, it was said the player is focused on the national team but has a ‘priority’ to play in the Champions League, meaning he may indeed be thinking about a new club.
As Pereira is currently with Brazil’s squad preparing for the Copa América, Lance features an interview with him and quizzes him about his future.
The midfielder has made it very clear that as soon as the competition ends, there’ll be a decision on whether he’s staying or leaving Fulham.
“It’s difficult. I’m focused on the Copa América. I want to win a title for the national team. I’ve waited a long time to be here, so I’m enjoying the moment. As for my future, of course I’m looking forward to it, but I think I’ll leave it until the Copa América is over and I’ll certainly let you know.”
“I want to play in the Champions League. The biggest championships in football. I certainly have that as a goal in my head. I haven’t decided where it’s going to be yet.”
There’s also another part of the interview which Fulham fans should be interested in. That’s the part where he’s asked about his time at Flamengo, who were in talks with Manchester United to keep him after the loan. He mentioned it was the Craven Cottage side who ended up signing him, and doesn’t sound very happy that it happened.
“It was a moment of uncertainty. When Dorival arrived, I expressed my desire to stay. I’ve been very comfortable since the coach arrived. Unfortunately, I ended up leaving for Fulham. I’m very grateful for what Dorival did for me and for Flamengo too.”
On his last season, with the Whites, he said: “It was very good for me. One of the best seasons I’ve ever had. But it started off difficult with the injury I had. I wasn’t focussed on getting back to the level I played at before. But I did very well, thank God. I overcame all the things I did last year. I did even better than I expected. As I said, a year ago I had a broken ankle and I never imagined I’d be here.”
