Brighton & Hove Albion agreed a deal at the end of last week to take Fabian Hürzeler from St. Pauli.
The 31-year-old had just secured promotion to the Bundesliga, and there was widespread annoyance that he was leaving so quickly.
Monday’s edition of Bild states that was partly because of what Hürzeler had said at the club’s promotion party.
The German newspaper quotes him as saying “Let’s rock the 1st league too, we should remain very humble and modest”, with the insinuation St. Pauli fans believe the manager has been anything but humble or modest.
Hürzeler sent out a goodbye message at the weekend, but it’s not worked with everyone, and now Bild point towards a potential new ‘bitter’ situation.
The German newspaper report Brighton’s boss wants to raid his old club for goalkeeping coach Marco Knoop, and such a swoop probably won’t go down very well.
