Brighton and Hove Albion’s option to buy Deniz Undav back, even if VfB Stuttgart activate a clause to buy him this summer, is holding up negotiations for the striker.
That’s according to Kicker, who report that the transfer process is not as easy as first thought as Brighton are threatening to simply buy the striker back if he is sold this summer.
The newspaper explains that while Stuttgart have an option to buy Undav on a permanent basis this summer following his successful loan deal this season, that does not mean the matter is closed by any means.
They’ve failed to finalise a deal for the striker, despite wanting to do so and him publically urging it to happen, because there is an unknown catch in the matter.
This has proven to be an ‘all-blocking agreement’ between Stuttgart and Brighton as this clause also has to be negotiated in talks.
It is clause which has led to the somewhat non-committal comments from the various parties up to this point.
The big player is again Brighton owner and president Tony Bloom, who has ‘pulled an ace out of his sleeve’ with the buy-back option and has made it clear he is willing to counter Stuttgart by using it.
The clauses are only active until June 30th so a deal logically needs to be done before then, otherwise the doors will be open, and Brighton can demand what they like.
Kicker state that there will be ‘many more rounds of poker’ before that point and the seemingly easy deal for Undav is actually anything but.
