Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté has today missed training with France after picking up an illness that has also seen Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni drop out.

That’s according to journalist Loïc Tanzi, who reports that Konaté was kept out of training with the French squad on Thursday after being ‘weakened by a virus’.

The journalist makes no mention of the virus that the pair have picked up, or how long the Liverpool man will be out, just that he has sat out of training on Thursday.

Whether that’s enough to change Didier Deschamps’ plans remains to be seen, with them beginning their Euro 2024 campaign on Monday against Austria.

Various reports had made it clear that the Liverpool defender was set to be a starter in that game and, indeed, for the rest of the tournament alongside Dayot Upamecano.

The report stated that Deschamps had no plans to change his central defensive partnership, despite William Saliba’s impressive performances for Arsenal again this season.

Perhaps the Liverpool man’s unfortunately timed illness has provided the Arsenal star with his chance.
