Real Madrid have been in contact with Tottenham about a potential move for Cristian Romero, asking about the conditions required to sign the Argentine.

That’s according to Argentina’s Ole, who say the Champions League winners have the defender in their sights as they plan for the summer transfer window.

The newspaper explains that while Real Madrid are not pushing ahead at this moment in time and don’t particularly need to as they have plenty of options in central defence already, they have already consulted Tottenham about a potential move for Romero.

They wanted to know the potential conditions that Tottenham would put on a deal for the Argentine should they move forward.

Ole make reference to a termination clause worth €60m but that seems more like an expectation of how much he would cost than an actual release clause that Real Madrid could activate.

For now, they seem to just be interested in the World Cup winner and considering a bid, perhaps as a replacement for the likes of Nacho Fernandez.

Either way Tottenham won’t be particularly happy at Real Madrid and Florentino Perez turning their eye to them again, given their past.

Luka Modric and Gareth Bale are the obvious transfers that left Spurs fans disappointed in the past and the prospect of losing their latest star in Romero to the same club is unlikely to go down well.

So much for that special relationship.
