On Wednesday, Jijantes stated Newcastle United have offered €15m plus €5m bonuses to sign Barcelona’s Ferrán Torres.
The Magpies’ bid for the forward hasn’t pleased journalist Xavier Bosch and he made his feelings clear in his column for Mundo Deportivo.
The report’s title says Newcastle ‘laugh at Barca with an offer’ for the Spain international.
Bosch is aware that the La Liga side have ‘lost international prestige’ and that their financial difficulties restrict them from making big signings. However, he isn’t pleased with Newcastle laughing at the Catalan club with an offer worth €20m for Torres.
The 24-year-old finished the recently concluded season with 11 goals and four assists, and was Barca’s second top scorer. The journalist suggests he hasn’t been convincing since arriving from Manchester City in January 2022.
Despite this, he says Torres has constantly delivered, and he could suit Hansi Flick’s system. The Blaugrana invested €55m to sign him and the transfer still needs to be amortised.
Taking these factors into account, Bosch says it ‘would be the worst deal of the century’ if Barca were to sell Torres to Newcastle for €15m plus €5m bonuses. He’s clearly not happy with the proposal tabled by Eddie Howe’s side and says ‘this offer is a joke.’
On Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona still need to amortise €30m of Torres’ transfer, and therefore, it would be difficult for them to accept Newcastle’s €15m bid.
