On May 30th, Cristian Romero said the recently concluded season was the best one so far with Tottenham Hotspur. The star also stated that a summer transfer isn’t on his mind, but will analyse, if he were to receive offers.
ESPN journalist Esteban Edul and Leo Gabes, relayed by TN, now claim Real Madrid ‘plan to hire’ the 26-year-old.
According to Edul, the Tottenham star has ended up on the La Liga winners’ radar, and they want to secure his services in the summer window.
“There is one player out of the 29 who is working with Scaloni today who is wanted by a top team. Many say he is the best in his position. The player that Leo Gabes says has a survey, an enquiry or an interest from Real Madrid is Cuti Romero,” he said.
The report suggests the Tottenham player’s performances at the Copa América could be key for Real Madrid to decide whether or not to consider signing him.
If they decide to go ahead, it won’t be easy for Los Blancos to negotiate a deal with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Romero’s contract lasts until 2027 and he’s a key player for Ange Postecoglou. Therefore, a potential deal ‘will not be simple or cheap’ for Real Madrid.
Estadio add that their task would be made easier if the South American shows willingness to join Los Blancos, and this could ‘facilitate talks’ with Tottenham.
