Manchester City defender Sergio Gómez is very keen on a move to Real Sociedad and is making them a priority as he looks to leave the Etihad this summer.

That’s according to El Diario Vasco, who say Real Sociedad continue to try and unlock the transfer operation with Manchester City.

They explain that Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay, sports director Roberto Olabe and his righthand man Erik Bretos travelled to England on Sunday to try and unblock matters with Manchester City.

They’re continuing talks on that front to convince the Cityzens of a deal that suits them, but they are boosted by the fact that Gómez wants the move.

He has been ‘seized by the possibility’ of wearing the Real Sociedad shirt, something that is by no means a minor aspect.

Sources close to the player have confirmed to the newspaper that while there is interest from other top-level teams playing in European competition, he wants to return to La Liga with La Real.

He believes that Real Sociedad’s style fits him like a glove and wants to find himself at a club with a good sporting project like the one they have.

Sergio Gómez wants to end his spell at Manchester City and is now prioritising regular football over the prospect of playing a bit part role at the Etihad but winning titles. He recently cut short a holiday in Paris due to a family emergency and is ready to move if an agreement is struck.

La Real are keen to make it happen but the deal is currently expensive for them, particularly if Manchester City look for more than the €15m they paid to sign him two seasons ago.

They would never reach such a figure, particularly as a deal is likely to be much more expensive than that once his wages are factored in. They have a sum of €20m on the table at present with everything included and that is unaffordable.

Thus, they are looking for a cheaper transfer or a loan with a purchase option, although it’s not been ruled out that they allow Manchester City to include various percentages and variables to get closer to the sum they want.
