Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has always been hyped up at the Argentine national team, and his current form continues to get him some big love from the local media.
Newspaper Olé today has a story about the centre-back, recalling that he ‘stole the show’ in the friendly against Ecuador on Sunday, and claiming he ‘wants more’ now.
Romero made a beautiful assist for Angel Di Maria’s winner, and that’s enough for the newspaper to call him a ‘genius’.
Olé also features some quotes from some of his teammates, with players claiming the Tottenham player has a lot to add to the national team.
“Cristian, I would like to tell you that you are very complete,” said Rodrigo De Paul.
Romero himself also talked about the play: “These are moments. I had just gone to press. That’s why I went through. Then Rodri gave me a nice pass and I just heard Fideo (Noodle – nickname for Di Maria) say he was going through.”
Following the friendly against Ecuador, Argentina now play Guatemala in another match of preparation for the Copa América. They’ll be facing Canada, Chile and Peru in the tournament’s group stage.
With them having won the last Copa America and the World Cup, they’re clearly the favourites for this competition. Tottenham’s Romero was important in both campaigns, and is now one of the leaders in that squad.
