Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez could risk missing the start of next season as he is set to represent Argentina at the Olympics, according to TyC Sports.
Argentina U23 manager Javier Mascherano can have three players above the age of 23 in the squad and has decided to include the Manchester City star and Benfica defender Nicolás Otamendi. The third player is yet to be decided.
The duo were part of Argentina’s World Cup winning squad and have already made it to Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the Copa América in June.
The Olympics will take place in Paris between July 26th and August 11th, which is a week before the Premier League starts. The 24-year-old striker’s participation in this event means he will certainly miss pre-season with Manchester City.
Mascherano has until the start of July to announce his final squad. In other words, the Manchester City player’s involvement in the Olympics is set to be made official in over a month’s time.
