Maximilian Wöber’s decision to leave Leeds United on loan for Borussia Monchengladbach last summer has worked out, as he’s now a shoo-in for Ralf Rangnick’s squad at Euro 2024.
That’s according to Kronen Zeitung, who report that Wöber is set to be a ‘Euro star’ for Austria and Rangnick this summer.
The Austrian defender was one of several big departures from Leeds last summer following their relegation to the Championship.
He eventually joined Borussia Monchengladbach on loan and has proven to be a big hit at the club, making 25 appearances in the Bundesliga and even managing two goals and three assists as an added bonus.
Part of his desire to move was to give his international chances a boost and that’s been the case, with Kronen Zeitung report he’s earned ‘high status’ under Rangnick.
The 27-year-old has made himself useful as a left-back and a centre-back under the Austrian so far and is considered a player who is ‘structured (and) intelligent’, while the fact he’s also completed a degree works in his favour.
As does the fact he’s played across Europe, featuring for Leeds, Sevilla, Ajax and now Monchengladbach in Germany. It’s his time on loan at the latter this season which has solidified his international status.
And that means it can be considered a success, with the decision to leave Elland Road undoubtedly working out and him now set to star at Euro 2024 as a result.
