Austria Klagenfurt midfielder Andy Irving has revealed his sadness at leaving the club before heading to join West Ham United.
Kleine Zeitung cover the midfielder today as he heads off on holiday before joining up with West Ham this summer.
The newspaper explains that the 24-year-old is ‘leaving big shoes to fill’ at the club next season after an impressive campaign in which he’s managed nine goals and four assists in 28 games in the league.
He’s heading back to West Ham, who bought him from Klagenfurt in a €1.76m deal in August last year before loaning him back to the Austrian side for this season.
That loan deal is now over and Kleine Zeitung report that he has headed off on holiday to Nice for a well-deserved holiday before then joining West Ham for pre-season.
“I’m really sad,” he is quoted as saying about his departure, before adding “then we’ll see what happens” on the prospect of being a part of West Ham’s first team squad next season.
While his future there is yet to be worked out, it’s certain he’ll be missed at Klagenfurt, where his performances made him a firm fan favourite and have left big shoes to fill for whoever arrives at the club this summer.
