Norwegian forward Erik Botheim was has told Sportbladet that he’s chatted with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, a close friend, over the possibility playing together for the same club.
Botheim, 24, arrived at Swedish side Malmö FF at the start of this year and has impressed for them so far.
During the course of the interview, the forward talked about his friendship with the Manchester City star.
When asked how close he is with Haaland, Botheim opened up on how he became friends with the 23-year-old striker in the first place.
“We are good friends. We got to know each other in the U15 national team. Then we have been on many holidays together. It is simply nice,” he said.
On Sunday, Manchester City created history when they became the first Premier League team to win four titles in a row. Haaland, who managed 38 goals and six assists from 44 games this season, scored a brace in the Citizens’ 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last week.
This was vital in helping Pep Guardiola’s side maintain a lead over Arsenal, who finished second. The Malmö attacker had a chat with the Norway international after the Citizens’ win over the north London club.
“Yes, a little. He was very happy. He was strong yesterday [against Tottenham] when he put the 2-0 penalty in the cross. It was fantastic!” Botheim explained.
Towards the end of the chat, he was asked whether he’s talked to Haaland about the possibility of them playing for the same club at some point in their careers.
“Yes, but he’s on a slightly different level than me. The likelihood is pretty low,” he added.
Whilst Botheim would surely grasp it, a move to Manchester City appears out of the question for him.
