Jonathan Panzo will be returning to Nottingham Forest from Standard Liege this summer, as the Belgian side don’t have the money to activate his purchase clause.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reports that Panzo will return to Nottingham Forest before starting the search for a new club.

The 23-year-old has spent the second half of this season on loan with the Belgian club after returning from a similar spell with Cardiff in the Championship.

He’s only made five appearances for Standard in the Jupiler Pro League but featured in four of the play-off games, managing more minutes in the latter than the league.

They have an option to make his loan deal permanent, but Tavolieri reports they won’t be doing so thanks to the state of their current finances under 777 Partners.

He’s detailed how the club are in deep debt thanks to the management of the American group and so the likes of Panzo won’t be signed and instead shipped back to Nottingham Forest.

According to his information the defender has no intention of remaining at the City Ground, though, and will instead be looking for a new club in the summer.

Whether that’s in the form of a loan or a permanent exit isn’t made clear, but the intention is to move on again either way.
