Chelsea are continuing to work on signing Victor Osimhen this summer and may have been presented the opportunity to include Romelu Lukaku in the deal.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Belgian striker could be a ‘wildcard’ in the developing race for the Nigerian superstar.
They explain that while PSG are interested in Osimhen, his ‘dream remains the Premier League’ and following in the footsteps of his icon Didier Drogba.
He’s wanted to play for Chelsea since he was a child because of that, having grown up dreaming of emulating Drogba’s success at Stamford Bridge.
He has been a man on a mission ever since, particularly this year, which also saw him conversing regularly with Drogba at the Africa Cup of Nations, perhaps even about Chelsea.
The newspaper argues that his numbers speak for themselves, and Chelsea are willing to include him in the deal for Osimhen as it would help bring the cost down. Osimhen has a release clause of €130m that Napoli want matched.
Instead, Chelsea could bring the fee down, get rid of Lukaku and get the man they want all in one fell swoop.
The ideal solution is avoiding paying Osimhen’s €130m clause in one payment, which Napoli want, and including Lukaku could help with that.
He would also help the Italian side replace their star striker and has already indicated he would be willing to lower his wages by doing so at Roma this year.
He’s managed 20 goals in league and cup this year so would be a ‘sure shot’ for Napoli to help them replace Osimhen and allow them to spend their money elsewhere in what is likely to be a busy summer.
It’s why both sides have to seriously consider the option, which has been growing as an idea over the last few weeks and is now a ‘strong consideration’ as a result.
