Burnley’s Wout Weghorst has been on loan since the start of the 2022/23 season and it’s not clear as to whether he will return to Turf Moor next season.
The striker has been on loan at TSG Hoffenheim since last summer, and has managed seven goals and four assists from 29 games for them.
Hoffenheim have an option to make the Burnley man’s stay permanent, according to his agent, Simon Cziommer.
The representative has been speaking to Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Zone, to discuss the Netherlands international’s future, and this is when he revealed that “there is a buyout fee in the contract.”
He didn’t reveal the details, but the report states the German club could buy the 31-year-old for a ‘reasonable fee’.
“In terms of budgeting, there is not that much difference between the Premier League and the Championship. But Wout only has a one-year contract left,” he said.
“I can’t imagine that they want to keep him for a year and then let him leave on a free transfer. But I say that without having spoken to the club.
“Suppose manager Vincent Kompany now says: ‘I need Wout to shoot us back to the Premier League, I don’t care about the rest.’ Then it becomes a completely different story.”
If Hoffenheim won’t exercise the purchase option and Burnley decide to cash in from the player’s sale in the summer window, then the striker would prefer a move to FC Twente.
“He thinks it’s a fantastic club, just like me. I was able to play for them, Twente is my home. That’s how it feels for Wout, who used to be in the stands as a fan,” Cziommer explained.
