With his own podcast to share his opinions, Nicklas Bendtner, best known for his time at Arsenal, has been getting big coverage from the Danish media about his takes.
His latest comments on Stolpe Ind were on Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, with Tipsbladet featuring the quotes.
Bendtner actually came forward in defence of his compatriot, claiming it isn’t easy to succeed with the Red Devils these days, especially in his first season. The former striker knows all about struggling to make an impact at a big club after his time with Arsenal.
“What’s difficult is that United have to bring in a lot of players, so the question is where they’re going to get these three or four top players to strengthen the team.
The ex Arsenal player highlighted Hojlund’s mentality despite all the struggles, when asked whether he’d had a good season.
“I would say that based on the conditions, I would say that in terms of playing, no, but I would say that to the whole United team. But attitude-wise, I would say yes. I think his attitude has been top class. I really like his attitude.”
Manchester United spent over €70m to sign Hojlund from Atalanta last summer, and the centre-forward indeed struggled a little in his first season with the Red Devils.
After a great scoring streak he had in January and February, he currently holds a record of 14 goals and two assists in 40 appearances for the club, with eight goals in the Premier League.
Hojlund did show signs of big potential, though, and as Bendtner said, he might do better when fully adapted to Manchester United and potentially with the club in a better situation next season.
