Newcastle United’s apparent scouting mission to watch Boca Juniors midfielder Kevin Zenón has caused a slight panic at the Argentine club.
That’s according to El Litoral, who say that continued reports about Newcastle being interested in the player is ‘worrying all the Xeneize people’.
The newspaper reports that there is concern at Boca because consistent reports from Europe have linked Newcastle, and others, with a potential move for the 22-year-old.
Indeed, reports this week insisted that scouts from Newcastle were watching the midfielder at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium in Córdoba during the clashes with River Plate and Estudiantes de la Plata.
They’re currently not ruling out the possibility of improving the midfielder’s contract to further protect themselves and ensure they get a top fee should any club come seriously calling.
Now we should point out that a report yesterday indicated that it would be hard for Newcastle to get Zenon this summer as he’s entirely focused on Boca. In fact, his entourage have no idea where the reports from Europe are coming from.
That would suggest a move from Newcastle or anyone else isn’t imminent or even in the pipeline for now, but of course that can always change, and it seems Boca are fearing that turn happening at some point soon.
