Manchester United’s 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday evening was undoubtedly one of the worst results they’ve had this season.
The Danish media today highlights that the Red Devils were ‘humiliated’ by the South London side, and brings some quotes from midfielder Christian Eriksen about the defeat.
Speaking to Viaplay, with quotes brought by Tipsbladet, the 32-year-old tried to identify the problems which have been harming Manchester United lately.
“I think we’re missing a lot of things today. I just think we’re having an off day in general. There’s not much that works, and the chances they have, they score. So it was a huge off day.
“I think for a lot of this season it’s been the case that we’ve had some good periods and then we’ve conceded goals. It was a bit the same today, even though we had many good periods. But in the periods where we feel like we’re in control, the others run down and score. Of course we make it difficult for ourselves. But again, it’s football. It happens once in a while.”
“Those who are injured, we can’t do anything about them. The coach puts the team out that he thinks is the best, and the players who maybe play in a position they’re not used to, they do their best. So that’s not an excuse. Those players are quality players. But it was all round today that we didn’t hit anything at all.”
Eriksen, who has 25 appearances for Manchester United this season, still has a contract with the Red Devils running until 2025, but is one of the players who could be leaving Old Trafford in the summer.
Erik ten Hag’s side still have three more Premier League games this season, against Arsenal, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. Then there’s the chance of winning a title, as they’ll be playing the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley on May 25th.
