Sevilla have not yet completely ruled out the possibility of hiring Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca this summer, with the option very much on the table.
That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla, who say the Leicester boss remains on director of football Victor Orta’s list of options to replace Quique Sanchez Flores.
They explain that the Italian’s ‘very colourful and attacking game’ has not gone unnoticed by the Spanish director, who also believes he fits the profile of young and hungry coach he is looking for at Sevilla moving forwards.
Initially the idea of hiring him was something of a utopian idea as he has two years left on his deal at Leicester and a reported termination clause of €10m.
He’s got a meeting planned with Leicester’s hierarchy to decide his future and hasn’t ruled out returning to Sevilla as yet, largely due to sentimental reasons.
His return would only be possible if he separates from Leicester completely as Sevilla wouldn’t be willing to pay for him, largely because they simply don’t have the finances available to do so.
They’re not ruling out the move completely as yet, though, perhaps hoping that he leaves Leicester due to their current issues and makes himself available, something which we would suggest is very unlikely to happen.
This all feels overly optimistic from the media around the Spanish club, to the point of perhaps being delusional.
