Whilst for weeks the Italian media were adamant Julen Lopetegui had AC Milan as his first choice this summer, and the option of West Ham was a just-in-case scenario, the Spanish media have had it a little differently.
They’ve continually presented West Ham as a firm option, alongside Milan rather than being only something which would be considered if the Rossoneri moved on to other candidates.
That continues today with a report from AS.
The Spanish newspaper goes over what’s happened with Milan, after fans of the club launched a campaign, which became a little odd, against Lopetegui taking over.
However, the Spanish newspaper claim Lopetegui doesn’t want to do that, feeling what he’s been through is ‘disrespectful’, and he’s therefore moving on to other options.
Those options are put as West Ham United, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. All three are said to have contacted his entourage and ‘conversations will continue’ to see if there can be a positive outcome.
Bayern Munich and Manchester United links may be to encourage others into action, with the manager linked to the latter for over a year and the former in a managerial pickle right now.
West Ham look well placed.
