Manchester City are among the clubs to have joined Newcastle United in the chase for Schalke’s Assan Ouédraogo.

On April 9th, Sky Deutschland reported the Magpies are in the picture to sign the 17-year-old in the summer window.

Fast forward to May and Fussball News provides the latest on Newcastle and Manchester City.

Ouédraogo, who will turn 18-years-of-age next Tuesday, has managed two goals and two assists from 16 games this season. He was out of action for four months before returning to the pitch in March and has featured regularly when available for selection.

It’s claimed Manchester City, Newcastle and Manchester United have all sent officials to Schalke’s home stadium as they all ‘wanted to take a closer look’ at the midfielder.

The website blames workload for the injury he suffered last year and warns that his playing time needs to be managed well. The youngster’s contract lasts until 2027 and the report states he’s now valued at €8m.

Despite playing over 700 minutes for the senior team so far, Fussball News claim ‘industry insiders’ believe his market value ‘will explode’ to €40m or €50m at some point. This would only be possible if he were to impress on the pitch in the coming years.

In other words, Ouédraogo could be a future bet for Manchester City, Newcastle or others, if they decide to take the risk and invest on signing him in the summer window.

His release clause makes it cheaper for German clubs than those abroad, but the report makes no mention of any figures.
