Club go public with desire to sign Southampton player – Official seems surprised Saints want actual money

Trabzonspor are still negotiating with Southampton for Paul Onuachu but have been left shocked by the Saints demands for the striker.

That’s at least according to the latest comments from their president, Ertuğrul Doğan, who has admitted talks remain underway to Sabah.

Onuachu has spent the season on loan with the Turkish side since last summer, moving from Southampton after his disastrous spell there.

He’s managed 12 goals and four assists in 18 league games and is largely leaving a positive impression on the club.

And they’re keen to sign him on a permanent basis too, with Doğan telling reporters “our negotiations with Onuachu’s club (Southampton) are continuing. They want to sell him for a transfer fee. It is difficult for us to bear such a cost. There may be a situation to rent again.”

He seems shocked that Southampton would want a fee for the striker, apparently believing that they’d simply just get rid of him and not want to try and make some of the €18m they paid back.

He may, though, have a point about another loan deal happening. If Southampton miss out on promotion back to the Premier League, they will surely be more open to letting Onuachu go out on loan again just to get him off of the wage bill.

Either way, talks are underway with Trabzonspor, although their reluctance to spend money may make those talks a little difficult.
