Sevilla may now be regretting their decision last summer to block Marcos Acuna joining Aston Villa, as his value has now fallen ‘scandalously’.
That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who report it is ‘kind of scandal’ what has happened with the Argentine.
The newspaper explains that Sevilla are heading into the summer transfer window knowing they need to sell players to help balance the books.
Their poor season means they won’t be in Europe and there is a deficit for Victor Orta to make up as a result, and the plan is to fill that via player sales.
The reality is that Sevilla will have to sell him on the cheap and have missed their opportunity to make a decent price on the full-back.
They explain that ‘kind of a scandal’ formed around the player last year when Aston Villa wanted to sign him, but the deal was blocked, largely because it was Monchi trying to make it happen.
His value has ‘fallen scandalously’ since that point, and it seems there’s not much hope of them making a lot of money from a sale this summer.
They will perhaps be hoping that Monchi comes back and tries to take him to Aston Villa again, although we’d suggest the chances of that happening are low given his injuries this season.
