Despite Bruno Fernandes’ great individual success at Manchester United since joining the club, he hasn’t been surrounded by transfer rumours, even during renewal talks, and hasn’t looked to encourage exit talk at any point.
However, with reports in the English media this week claiming that the Red Devils’ new management will consider selling near enough everyone in the summer, the Portuguese media raised their eyebrows about it.
So as Bruno Fernandes was now interviewed by DAZN Portugal, he was asked about his future at Manchester United and a potential departure from the Premier League.
The midfielder didn’t really want to fuel those rumours, insisting that both he and the Red Devils want him to stay at the club, and leaving any chance of a transfer to be considered only after the Euros.
“I’m not thinking about other things at the moment. Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it? A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides,” Bruno Fernandes told DAZN Portugal.
“I’m not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn’t been at the level I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far. We could still end the season by winning the cup. After that, we have a very important Euros coming up.
“So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros, because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there’s nothing more important than that at the moment.”
Manchester United are now 6th in the Premier League, and all they can fight for is a place in the Europa League. Erik ten Hag’s side still have the chance for a trophy, though, as they’ll be facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 25th.
