Watford are frontrunners in the race for Farense goalkeeper Ricardo Velho, according to claims from Portugal.
Newspaper Record today features a story which states the Faro club are preparing to make the biggest sale in their history with the 25-year-old.
It’s said that Watford and Sevilla are the clubs ‘at the head’ to sign Velho, and could land him for a ‘considerable sum’.
The player is protected by a €10m release clause, and only a ‘convincing offer’ will lead to a deal. Neither of the clubs have put their bid on the table so far, and even though reports this week said the La Liga side had made an attempt, that was denied by Farense.
That may not be so difficult, with Sevilla going through a very troubling financial blip.
The goalkeeper arrived at Farense back in 2020, joining from Braga’s B squad. This season, he has 33 appearances, with 51 goals conceded and six clean sheets. It’s surely worth pointing out that his club are 10th in Liga Portugal.
