Over the past few weeks, and specifically in recent days, multiple claims from Portugal have discussed Liverpool’s interest in appointing Sporting manager Rúben Amorim as Jürgen Klopp’s successor.
The German has announced his decision to leave Anfield after this season and the Reds have to appoint a new manager.
Sporting star Viktor Gyökeres’ agent Hasan Cetinkaya has been speaking to A Bola and was asked about the possibility of the Lions manager moving to Liverpool.
“I’m not surprised that Rúben is being linked with Liverpool, it’s normal, his work is of a high standard, it’s what clubs are looking for,” he said.
Sporting signed the striker from Coventry City last summer and prior to that, he had several options to pick from. The representative has revealed that his client turned down better offers in order to work under Amorim at the Portuguese club.
He even claims the 25-year-old could consider changing clubs if Liverpool are successful in taking Amorim away from Sporting.
“Of course, it’s an honour for any player to be able to play in the Champions League, Viktor is no exception in that respect, but there are other important things and Rúben Amorim is one of them. If he leaves it will be more difficult for Viktor to continue.”
The Sweden international has a €100m release clause in his contract that lasts until 2028 and his agent has revealed that several top Premier League sides are interested to sign him. He has refused to reveal the details and Liverpool may be one of them.
“It’s a huge amount of money [€100 M], only available to the biggest clubs, but I have several top clubs interested in Viktor. I can’t, of course, name any clubs, but they’re top clubs, some in the Premier League, but not only that,” he added.
This, coupled with his comments on Amorim is a clear indication that Liverpool will have a huge advantage in the race for Gyökeres, if the current Sporting manager were to end up at Anfield.
