Djurgården official Peter Kisfaludy has been speaking at length to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet about Lucas Bergvall and the youngster’s impending move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Kisfaludy is a huge fan of the 18-year-old and has worked on his development for years, assisting the Djurgården move and advising on the future.
That future will obviously be at Spurs, but several other clubs had been seriously interested. Barcelona were one and there was a little arrogance in the Catalan media that Bergvall would surely choose the Camp Nou side.
When that didn’t happen and it was Tottenham who won, insinuations that Bergvall must have chosen the Premier League side for the money began.
Kisfaludy has now insisted that’s not the case, and sounds quite annoyed about the claims.
Aftonbladet quote him as saying: “He has taken everything very well. There has been so much rubbish on social media that he would have chosen Tottenham for the money. It’s total bull. The contracts with Barcelona and Tottenham were fully negotiated. Both for his own part and between the clubs, so that he could choose.”
On the reasons for choosing Spurs, the official explained: “He got a better feeling and that is not so strange. When the coach Ange Postecoglou sits down with him and says that he loves young players and that he will get the chance there if he works hard.
Compare that to Barcelona, where you didn’t even know who was going to coach the team.”
Kisfaludy went on to say that Bergvall felt trust from Ange Postecoglou, which was a big factor.
Having compatriot Dejan Kulusevski at Tottenham has also been a positive, and the Sweden international helped to convince Bergvall that Spurs is the best place for him.
