Jadon Sancho wants to stay at Borussia Dortmund next season, but the German side cannot afford to pay what Manchester United want for him.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say Dortmund are hoping Sancho can convince Manchester United to let him go.
They explain that the Bundesliga side are expecting ‘tough poker’ for the forward, who returned on loan in the January transfer window following his miserable spell at Old Trafford.
The loan return has largely gone to plan but ‘everything would be nicer’ if it weren’t for Manchester United.
Sancho is only on loan until the summer and the deal doesn’t include a purchase option, so BVB are expecting a ‘tough poker game’ with their English counterparts.
They’re in regular contact with Sancho’s management and have received positive feedback about him staying long-term as he is comfortable in Dortmund and happy to be away from Manchester United, where he was unhappy for the first time in his career.
Whether those in charge at Old Trafford would accept such a deal, though, is up for debate given the major loss they would be making on the fee they paid to sign Sancho in the first place.
The player himself can help negotiations by trying to convince Manchester United to let him go and significantly reducing his salary, which is currently €18m a year. Dortmund can only offer as much as €9m a year but can use any extra money saved there for his transfer fee.
Another loan deal has not been entirely ruled out either, although both clubs would prefer a more permanent solution.
Thus, Sebastien Kehl is planning talks to work something out and will approach Manchester United to hold the first ‘concrete talks’ ahead of the summer.
