Everton’s youngsters have again found themselves being praised in Germany after winning the Champions Trophy this week.
Rheinische Post cover the Blues today after Leighton Baines side were praised for their performances over Easter.
They explain that only Everton were able to stop newcomers Sydney from a successful run to the trophy, with a penalty shootout in the final securing it for the Toffees and gaining defending champion status for next season.
They’re already eyeing up participation again next year, having been the last entrants to this year’s tournament in the first place, with academy director Chris Adamson enthusing about the tournament before they returned to England.
The tournament left ‘nothing to be desired’ for the participants, who benefitted from short distances between the hotel and the pitches thanks a shuttle service.
This seemingly added to the quality of the tournament, which has also been praised by the other participants and has others ready to sign up to wrestle the trophy from Everton’s grasp.
They’re also ready to return next season, even if they were forced to leave the trophy, named the Charly Meyer challenge cup, where it was as there was no time to add it as extra baggage.
That’s just one slight negative on an otherwise great week for the youngsters, though, who it seems are likely to be in this tournament for years to come based on their enthusiasm this year.
